to design a system that will efficiently and properly mask your stage.
Below are a few of the different types of drapes that we can supply. |
|
|
|
Main Drape |
The pull-draw curtain at the proscenium arch of
theatre to separate the stage from the audience. It is typically made
from a velour with 50% fullness and of a pleasing colour such as red,
burgundy or blue. The top is finished with jute and grommets for track
hanging and the bottom with a chain pocket. |
| |
|
|
Valance |
A horizontal framing drape at the top of the
proscenium arch of theatre used as masking for when the main drape is
open. It is also used to vary the height of the proscenium in a fly
house. It should be made of the same material as the main drape. The top
is finished with jute and grommets for pipe hanging and the bottom can
be fitted with a chain pocket if necessary. |
| |
|
| Border |
A horizontal framing drape at the top of stage used to
mask electrics and other battens. It is typically made of black velour
or commando cloth and can be made flat or with 50% fullness. The top is
finished with jute and grommets for pipe hanging and the bottom with a
chain pocket. |
| |
|
|
Leg |
The vertical framing drapes coinciding with the
position of the borders to mask the wings from audience sight. They are
made in pairs and should be of the same material as the border. The top
is finished with jute and grommets for pipe hanging and the bottom can
be fitted with a chain pocket if necessary. |

|
|
Traveller |
A pull-draw curtain that can separate the stage and/or
cover the rear wall/cyclorama. It is typically made from the same
material as the borders and legs with 50% fullness. The top is finished
with jute and grommets for track hanging and the bottom with a chain
pocket. |
| |
|
|
Scrim |
A special effects material called Sharkstooth or
bobbinette that is loosely woven. If light is shone behind the scrim it
becomes transparent but is opaque if light is kept in front of it. This
is useful for making scenes appear and disappear. The top is finished
with jute and grommets for pipe hanging and the bottom with a pipe
pocket. |
| |
|
|
Cyclorama |
A highly reflective material, constructed from PVC or
cotton, at the rear of the stage used for colour washes and projections.
The top is finished with jute and grommets for pipe hanging and the
bottom with a pipe pocket. |
